Daet Islands

Daet Islands consist of Calaguas Islands and Mercedes group of islands located off Daet .

You can see Daet Islands off the coast of Daet’s Bagasbas Beach there are several beutiful , unspoilt , undeveloped natural islands .

These are grouped into two main different groups called The Mercedes Group of Islands and The Calaguas Group of Islands .

Amazingly i havent visited them ALL yet (yet !) but they are definately on my priority list . So that said , im no expert but i will tell you what i know for now which has greatly been learnt from the net and asking locals .

To see which ones ive visited and for more info on each goto the Daet Islands blog posts catorgory top left .

So here goes , the info i have is a little confusing as to names and times and distance to these islands , but one thing is for sure there not far you can see some of them from bagasbas beach ! I guess it depends on the weather the boat the engine and departure point for the reported travel times .

The departure points are from Mercedes and Vinsons and sometimes Bagasbas Beach (weather permitting) . Some tour guides arrange bus pick up to and from bagasbas beach . There are tour groups that arrange excursions from Manila .

Travel Time To The Daet Islands

To get to mercedes from Daet centro is a 15 min tricycle ride and to get to vinsons is a 45 min jeepney ride from Daet centro .

The boats are large sea worthy local fishing boats . Depending on what point you depart from to what daet island you go to , it could take anything from 20 min to 2 hours to get to the furthest one .

The Islands and the fishermen have been here forever but the visitors and tour guides are just starting . Yes you can haggle with the fishermen and get a boat , but if your like me and would prefer a bit more safety .

Like (lifejackets) and organisation (tents) and a make shift camp on the beach within a group . Then the only man i know of is a guy called Melvic Brinas (thats all i know about this chap) but he has excellent reviews and you can look him up here Calaguas Island Guide

OK i will try to give you a low down about these islands ive not yet been to but will soon and will have pics to prove it ! So firstly im not sure exactly how many there are so lets say a few .

They have fine white sand , clear water , apparently typical paradise type places .They are mostly facing the Pacific ocean , some have good surfing and some have great diving with drop offs , and all have great snorkling .

Most are only habited by friendly local fishermen none have mains water or electric . Some have toilets and as of 2013 virtually no tourists (or dive equipment !).

One of the islands has the oldest light house in the region . Two of the Daet Islands are joined at low tide by a sand bar , one of the Islands has coves to explore .

It really does sound like paradise and to top it all off if you go with Melvic he gets one of his boys to bring a cool box . So in the evening you can enjoy a chilled beer and watch the huge fruit bats .

Oh and you might see flying fish whilst in the boat also . Best to visit soon before it all gets spoilt by tourism , theres no where else like it in the world and was Daet‘s best kept secret untill now.

I will post in the islands blog catorgory when i have visited each and will have daet islands photos to show.
